New to SEO? 4 Easy Tips to Get You Started!
We talk a lot about SEO here, and how it can give your business traction in the competitive market. Some of you may not know what that is, or not know how to get started. We’ve got your back!
First off, what is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization is the process of managing a website that is both attractive to your target market, and prominent in search engine rankings. If your site has great SEO, you’ll show up at high in the search engine results. That translates into more views and more conversions!
So how can you get started with SEO?
Beginning to implement healthy SEO practices might seem daunting, but don’t worry! We’ve got 4 simple tips to start you out strong. If you implement these easy tips, you’re sure to see an increase in views to your website.
1. Optimize Page Titles and Meta Descriptions
Make sure your page title is unique and descriptive. Visitors want to know exactly what they’re getting, so make sure your title gives them an accurate picture of the content they’ll find when they click through. As a bonus, use the meta description to summarize your post for more helpful information.
2. Use Keywords
What’s a keyword? Think about the search terms people would use to find a site like yours. Your page titles, headers, and content should include similar terms, so that potential visitors can find you! Keywords help Google show the best websites when people search for something. That being said, “keyword stuffing,” or the overuse of keywords to try to gain views, is never a good idea. Use keywords intentionally and naturally within your content.
3. Try Internal Linking
Internal linking is a handy way for visitors to find content that’s interesting and valuable to them on your website. Link to appropriate pages on your site from within content, menu bars, and footers. Start from a general page (perhaps your homepage), and create pathways of links to increasingly specific content.
4. Tag your Images
It’s easy for Google to index words, but images are another matter. Pages with great imagery are incredibly attractive to visitors, but how do you get Google to recognize that? With alt tags! Include a keyword-rich description of your image in the alt tag. This both helps your SEO, and could bring in visitors through a Google Image search.
5. Create Quality Content
Keep in mind that while you’re trying to increase your website’s ranking in Google, your first responsibility is to your visitors. If they’re not interested and engaged in your content, no amount of proper SEO techniques will give you the results you want. To see the greatest success for your website, start with a solid base of content that is useful to your target market and build up SEO around that.
